order to change our collective behavior when it comes to energy sources, the problem itself has nothing to do with politics...it is a factual issue for mankind. Notre Dame's leadership (gong back to Fr. Ted, for sure, and perhaps to Fr. Sorin) sees the mission of the university IMO as one where our Catholic Faith (Theology) is 'added', or brought to bear on such an 'Intellectual/Scientific' issue.
You may have issues with the manner in which the university communicates, but the 'message' is still the same...ND sees Climate Change as a vital issue to be dealt with...and as an 'Intellectual Bridge' between "Eternity" and the "Mortal Present" (my term), it wants to make clear that it is "Fully Engaged" in resolving this problem.
I only saw a few moments of Conor's linked video with Fr. Jenkins, but I'd suggest you watch it all, as I will, to get a fuller "Back Story" to the Ad you saw yesterday.
P.S. The book on Fr. Ted that I referenced earlier provides a good insight into his view of role as priest and educator...perhaps not the most 'stylistically' polished publication, but one that does indeed add context to his many endeavors...for those who appreciate all that Fr. Ted has done for this institution we all love.
