I'll address a couple of your issues...but there's no way I can cover all of them in one sitting ;-)
>There are many religions and sects within those religions...multiple 'Christian' beliefs, including Catholic (Conservative and Liberal)...Jewish (Orthodox and 'Reformed)...Muslim (Sunni and Shiite)...Hindu...etc, etc....our kids could spend an hour making sure that all religions were represented...oh, and btw, there's no small number of Atheists who might not enjoy the 'waste' of their time....how do you suggest we address this issue in our public schools?
>Morality and Responsibility instruction fundamentally belongs at home...public schools can and do establish social standards that promote peace and good learning during the school day.
>Abortions are the result of "Unwanted Pregnancies"...if we address the reasons why they happen, we will reduce the number of Abortions. Some causes (e.g. Rape, Incest) are widely accepted as justification for Abortion...a key reason for 9 out of 10 supporting it...other reasons (e.g. 'Date Rapes'...Abusive Husbands demanding their 'Conjugal Rights') are close to the Rape/Incest category and for women, are truly "Unwanted" and cause them to seek Abortion...then there are situations where couples desire to share sexual pleasure and don't want a pregnancy since it would be a MAJOR negative impact on their lives...these situations will happen...a LOT...and CONTRACEPTIVES are the best means of dramatically reducing UPs...sadly, the Catholic Church doesn't support contraceptives...therefore, the Church is complicit in creating potential Abortions.
Let's stop here...at least for the moment...I'm glad you're venting these concerns...you're by no means alone...and to varying degrees you have the right perspective IMO...BUT, if you'll devote a little time to listening to what I have to say, you might find alternative ways of reaching the objectives you seek...Remember, I'm a life-long Catholic who is striving to live my faith and learn how to be even better.
Let's try to be more focused on one issue at a time...we won't likely solve many of them...but there will be greater understanding and perhaps a little less 'angst'...are you up for that? BTW, it should come as no surprise to you that if we go down that path, I'll expect you to read what I believe are worthy papers from educated sources...sorry to say, but agreement to that is a MUST...we can't just rely on our own insular opinions...they must be "Informed Opinions" meaning other opinions have been explored, challenged and then discerned...btw, I will read your sources as well.
Also, I hope that others will join in...One more thing...Merry Christmas to you and yours!
