These scenes put me in mind of what the British conservative Roger Scruton described as his "light bulb moment." He in university in the late sixties and campus radicals were protesting and rioting. He watched middle class/upper-middle class kids, allegedly fighting for the working class, hurl bottles at working class police officers, and it revolted him and forced him to pick a side, which he did. I would imagine what's happening now has the same effect here for many people and I doubt most choose the side of the folks in black masks.
