The Israeli's have done a lot of underhanded shit as well. So has everyone, really.
But that doesn't take away from the fact that - if it truly happened as described - this was a heinous act that deserves a response. I don't think Trump is soft-pedaling because of personal stakes in the Arabian Peninsula (Trump corporate interests). I think he is soft-pedaling because this is potentially hugely disruptive to US policy in the Middle East. I think we should give this situation a couple weeks to see what happens with regard to the US response. Mnuchin bowing out of "Davos in the Desert" is a big deal, IMO - and little noted.
