I don't see what is so appalling about both sides playing by the same rules. It may not be great, but at least it is fair. The Left would keep up with their tribalistic, divide into identity group political strategy unless and until they see the error of their ways. Perhaps your point is that they will never see the error of their ways, and it is a long term bad thing for the country to even try to show them the evil of their ways by responding in kind. I get that. But, Trump has already increased the chances of saving millions of lives through his SCOTUS appointments. And, I think it is too much of a stretch to try to protray him as Hitler--he is not remotely an idealogue. His good (SCOTUS appointments, regulation rollback, foreign policy, finally standing up to Russia) far outweighs any evil attributed to him so far. And, I think most of the evil being attributed to him (synagogue killings) are really just the Left and Anti-Trumpers trying to use the deaths of jews for their political advantage.
