Again, the initial response is likely to have been the same, but the moment Obama said, "I'm doing what I can - give me some slack", they and you would have immediately complied. And when Suadi Arabia remained our ally, you would have said nothing. Ironically, Saudi Arabia paid a much higher political PR price for Trump being in office because it drove a far higher profile response by the media who simply assumes that Trump will do the wrong thing on every issue.
Since you have a career in geopolitics, I think you understand that this incident by itself, as horribly deplorable and immoral as it was, is not going to change the ally status of such a critical Middle Eastern country under any president including Trump (and especially Obama who routinely ignored even his own American citizens being tortured and detained throughout the world in order to not upset the diplomatic apple cart). Or don't you know that?
