There are two types of transgender:
1) Those with chromosomal disorders or physical development disorders. This is true transgender, and it is based on biological science...verifiable, medical disorders. I don't think anyone denies that these disorders should be treated by medical science, if possible. Right? You agree with that, right? If we can address their disorder, we should do so. We should not pretend they don't have a disorder and deny them treatment.
2) Those who have no chromosomal or physical development disorders, but they have a mental perception that they are a "man trapped in a woman's body" or vice-versa. These are people who perceive themselves to be a different sex than the sex that biological science clearly and unambiguously classifies them as. This is a mental disorder...a constant misperception of biological reality. It is my impression that this group is the basis for the majority of the modern transgender political movement.
This is why transgenders are worthy of our sympathy and our help. They do not deserve to be carelessly treated like we might casually indulge a harmless childhood fantasy for a brief period of time. There are high stakes here, such as the amazingly high incidence of suicides in transgender people.
Explain either how one or both of those are not disorders, or explain a third class of transgender that I have missed.
