Prosecutors have many reasons for the differing versions of "The Perp Walk." One of the most notorious was in New York when the prosecutor for the Southern District of New York arrested over a dozen bank employees of Abicus Bank in Chinatown. This was an outrageous attempt by Cyrus Vance Jr. to show he was getting tough on banks. Abicus was a relatively small bank and some of those who were doing the walk were already on bail. The photos of these bank employees, most of them middle aged or older, Chinese people shackled together drew howls of outrage and laughter. Of all the banks and investment firms in NYC, Abicus is the only one Vance went after. The trial cost millions and ended up with the bank and it's officers being found not guilty. For a time, however, Vance was able to strut around saying he was going after the big financial institutions. Sadly, for Cyrus, his tough guy stance made him look like a fool.
