a few months ago when, I believe, 60 Minutes did a segment on thousands of military veterans who were promised free college tuition for their service, but then the loan companies 'slow played' them, or outright refused to honor their promises to pay them back...something like 90% of the petitioners were getting "stiffed"...so I highlighted that aspect as justification for at least some effort being expended there.
As for physicians, not every Doc gets paid what you're suggesting...most Family Practitioners make considerably less than those figures....somewhere around $210K/yr...I'm not saying they need "Go Fund Me" accounts, but the loans they carry are quite high and with all the normal expenses people have, it takes a long time to pay them off....also, as I mentioned, many countries (e.g. Ireland) pay for all expenses...if you are a qualifying top student...the country wants good Docs, so they pay for them in their taxes...a societal choice...we could do the same if we wanted/needed to....just saying...btw, I believe Medicare already funds our physicians', albeit low, Residency salaries.
The whole issue is worthy of debate...but not rejection out of hand...IMO.
