Yes and no - for me, there are many films on race relations that do that.

I think mane didn't really get into the film because it's really not a great film. I liked it for what it is I just don't see it as a great film the same way 12 Years a Slave isn't a great film (McQueen's "Widows" is a better made film and it's interesting).
