I suppose the Super Bowl isn't technically "pointless," but it's certainly worse than the Indy 500. The biggest dud in the history of American sports, given the hype it receives. You look back over the results over 50 years and it's pathetic. No wonder they've had to increasingly emphasize the halftime bells and whistles. Take the 1980s, aside from the Niners and Bengals in '89 and, to a far lesser extent, the 1980 game, what a pile of turds. For every one good Super Bowl, you have nine tedious borefests. How you guys watch that crap for five hours, plus Joe Buck or whoever in the endless pre-games, is beyond me.
It's even worse than one of their other great idea, sudden death. They managed to pick the least exciting format for overtime and it's proven to be just that time and again.
