“Hey Conor…. we are color blind. We just want the most qualified and learned judges available to sit on the Court. It ought not be a quota system. Just give us the best of the best.”
Gag me.
Newsflash: There are many qualified judges who are well suited to sit on the Supreme Court. Race, gender, religion …. does not make a prospective judge more or less qualified to sit on the Supreme Court. [Predictably, certain posters (not you) assume a black female judge is unqualified].
The United States Constitution gives a President wide discretion in his nominations. Some posters criticize Biden for narrowing his pool of candidates to black females. But, the decision is grounded in Biden’s commitment (ala Reagan in 1980) that the Court needs a black female jurist — not because of a lack of other terrific options, — but because adding a black female to the Court for the first time in US history, hopefully widens the nation’s respect for the Court’s rulings. How Americans perceive the Court’s authority is paramount.
We want a diverse Court — both as to jurisprudence of the individual jurists, and the faces of the jurists. President Biden is trying to achieve that objective with this nominee.
