The interviewee talks about an "Alienated America"...effectively, a divided America. This is an important point, I think.
The countries the democratic socialists want us to imitate (e.g., the Scandanavian countries) are not divided. I don't think socialist policies that may have worked over there (which I concede solely for the sake of argument here), will actually work over here. We are a different nation.
- - They don't have "alienated" sub-populations like we have.
- - None of them imported a population of enslaved people against their will.
- - Those countries are largely homogeneous. They are not diverse like the United States.
- - They have relatively small populations. Denmark and Norway are smaller than Indiana.
- - They are all small geographically by comparison; not large and spread out like the US. They don't face the same problems in that regard that we face.
- - Culturally speaking, they are not militaristic like we are--I think we need to acknowledge that about ourselves. We are far more willing to fight for our rights, and for others...including them.
