Great article by Washington & Lee student (now grad) at the link. Starts with him talking about giving a tour to prospective students and their families (including a 10 year old girl)...and trying to navigate around campus to shield them from the worst of the Sex Week posters, including a massive poster of naked students hanging on their student center staircase. The university probably loses all of those students who tour that week. I know I crossed Vanderbilt off the list for my daughter, partially because their student magazine had an issue focusing on sexual bondage when we toured. I crossed Northwestern off the list for her when one of their professors brought in a prostitute who performed sex acts in front of students years ago. This is duplicated around the country at many secular/state universities. I think many parents have no idea this type of stuff goes on, because they just happen to tour on other weeks, or don't read news sites that cover these types of outrageous activities.
The article makes a lot of great arguments against the need and even desirability of promoting "Sex Week" on campus. Why do college administrators push this stuff (in W&L's case, against the wishes of the student body)? I and my wife and my kid are now picking a college for that kid. There are a lot of otherwise good universities that are trying to discourage us from sending our kid to their university by unnecessarily promoting this kind of BS. It is a sad indicator for the future of the United States that this kind of stuff is going on.
