should be cancelled. Your argument about the athletes being “low risk” ignores the fact that they will then go home to their family and friends who will have high risk members.
I personally see the infection as inevitable. The only advantage to restricting events is to buy time for response from the medical community and pharmaceutical industry. But that will be at the cost of everyone’s way of life, and it may not be helpful anyways.
Logically, we should either go “all in” or not bother with such half measures.
