In Michigan, African Americans make up 15 percent of the state’s population but account for 35 percent of COVID-19 cases. Worse yet, African Americans represented 41 percent of COVID-19 deaths in the state.
I live in a suburb within Wayne County, which also includes the City of Detroit. We have a population of ~36,000 and have had only 150 cases and 13 deaths from COVID 19 (most in senior citizen homes). But... we are all on lock down and businesses are going bankrupt and workers are on unemployment... which will run out before the jobs come back. The situation in most of this state mirrors this trend. There are many counties with not a single death.
These patterns are being repeated all across the country and everybody knows it. Those who are lobbying against re-opening are playing with fire. This will have a huge impact in the November election, especially in the Midwest battleground states.
