Frankly, I never knew that bases were named after confederate military figures. It does not seem to me that it was done as a "government endorsement" of their views but more likely that it was an act of conciliation in re-unifying the nation and was done to recognize military abilities and not to condone the beliefs of confederates.
I am perfectly fine with changing the names but am having some difficulty with the reactionary way things are being addressed.
Tulane may have a real issue here...sooner or later.
