Nick Cannon got fired for something he said 15 or so days ago, Kevin Hart got fired from hosting the Oscars for something he said 15 years or so ago. Very different scenarios.
You can argue that either one of these punishments didn't fit the crime, but don't lump them all together.
One problem with our society at the moment is that we lump everything together. To highlight this, who was it, Matt Damon maybe? Someone made the argument regarding the MeToo movement that there are degrees of poor behavior. You can't treat a person who makes a bad joke the same as someone who is a serial rapist. Cancel Culture tried to crucify them for making this benign and obvious statement.
