I initially went for Spain, and liked them. But, I am now super into Italians...more selection of highly ranked wines, it seems. Then again, I've liked James Suckling's recommendations, and he lives in Tuscany.
And, it makes sense. I always hung out at the Cab/Pino range, because I like less sweet wines. And lo and behold, I discover that Sangiovese and Tempranillo, popular in Italy and Spain, are even drier.
I still like California, and I'm learning France...lots of good, multi-dimensional wines coming out of France, but I've targeted many more Tuscany wines to try than French.
Tonight, though, I'm really enjoying some Ben Marco Expresivo Mendoza, 2016 (a malbec). James Suckling rates it a 96. I figure if it came from France, it would be a $60 bottle, but since its from Argentina, it is $30. Not bad.
And, yes, I started enjoying it early. I just informed the wife that I was probably getting drunk tonight. Not because I want to. I just don't see myself stopping before this bottle is down.
