I can see what you're saying there.
However, it presumes that the same person who is diligent about washing hands properly and not touching anything else will be the person that touches their COVID mask too much. That may or may be a large oval on the Venn diagram of people, but I tend to think not.
It also presumes that infected surfaces are the primary spreader. I seem to think the current thinking is that airborne is the more pernicious vector. I'm not sure I believe that but it is what I've heard.
