I ranked each wine I tasted in 2020 on a scale of 0-10.
Region | Avg. Price | Avg. Rk. | Range |
---|---|---|---|
California | $45.72* | 7.9 | 4-10 |
Argentina** | $22.00 | 7.3 | 5-10 |
Spain | $15.00 | 7 | all 7s |
Italy** | $22.00 | 6.6 | 1-9 |
France*** | $19.83 | 4.3 | 0-8 |
** The data forces the ranking above, but outliers bumped up Argentina and took down Italy, unjustly, I would say. I would swap them so that Italy is 2nd and Argentina below Spain at 4th.
- Argentina is a small sample set so far, with a single “10” rank for the Ben Marco Expresivo 2015 which bumped it up. Really great bottle. Only one bottle so far, though, so it does not satisfy Lehigh's 3 bottle rule. I have been surprised at how I have liked a couple of the Argentinian Malbecs I've tried, but they generally don't compare to the Italian wines I've tried....
- Italy sample set has a “1” rating in it, taking it down in the overall rankings. Without that 1, the range is 7-9 with a 7.8 average, making Italy second after California. I seem to like Sangiovese wines...something I didn't know before this experiment started.
*** France had a few bad bottles. Not sure what to make of that. There were great ones in there, but consistency may be a problem.
I will continue to work on this project diligently. My sample set is clearly too small all around.
