Until "V-Day" arrives, hopefully everyone (literally) will fervently utilize all means of mitigation...not just to protect themselves, but the entire HC system.
We have two MDs in our extended family, and as luck would have it, one is an Infectious Disease specialist (on the faculty of a medical school) and the other is a Critical Care/Pulmonology specialist (i.e. ICU Doc). Both of them did residencies in NYC and have many friends there who gave them real world details of what transpired during the early days of the pandemic, so they were 'forewarned' of how bad things could get. Now, with burgeoning cases in the rest of the country, they are hearing from other peers (e.g. Nebraska and South Dakota) stories about hospitals being literally over run...meaning heart attack and bowel obstruction emergencies not getting the immediate care they require.
Our HC system is finite...there are only so many doctors, nurses, staff, beds, ventilators, etc...It is our collective responsibility to do all that we can to avoid a true catastrophe...it's challenging for sure, but with any luck, it's only for a few more months.
Let's keep our focus on this pandemic and save the political debates for later.
