I admit that I have not read this NYT op ed, because it requires a subscription. I link it for the benefit of the few who might have one. And it's possible that he makes some reasonable and valid arguments within. But the headline does sort of frame his far left bent. I suppose that if you see yourself as a shepherd then you see people as sheep. I understand that Christ's religious revolution was outlined in the Second Great Commandment and its emphasis on empathy. I just don't see that as a mandate for an exercise in governmental OCD. I can care for others without insisting they do behave as I command.
