Either you object to "gender affirmation" or you treat these people with kindness. It's a ridiculous proposition. Particularly with regards to the children placed on this path, they are largely being manipulated, and certainly let down, by adults in their lives, including people with medical degrees who should and probably often do know better. That is profoundly sad and how could any decent person not treat these kids with compassion? As someone who has interacted with a number of trans kids, it is often heartbreaking. These are overwhelmingly kids on the periphery among their peers, kids who are already desperate to find niches and identities, and to get some sort of attention. You can imagine most of the time about their home situations and the parent or parents in their lives.
I saw the clip from that HBO show on trans kids and the situation presented was a typical one: a mother pushing her child toward this path, even when her child explains how it's hurting him. There is usually either a very, very weak father who gives in, even though he knows it's wrong, or no father at all. My wife had a male student in her 3rd grade classroom whose broken mother pushed her son to wear dresses and toward transgenderism. The boy had a very weak father who verbalized that he knew it was wrong and harming his son, but he allowed it to continue. Meanwhile, his son subjected to harm because his mother lacks the intestinal fortitude to pump herself full of testosterone or mutilate her sex organs, so does so vicariously through her kid. Plus, she attracts attention by having a trans kid and projects virtue in the same way conor attempts in this thread. Additionally, the other 3rd graders were subjected to a profoundly confusing situation, and forced to deal with things that 8 year-olds should not have to deal with in a compassionate society.
