... for the assholes who broke windows at Starbucks or defaced a public building or committed assault.
Such criminal wrongdoing occurs daily. As does rape, armed robbery, and murder.
Present a fact pattern and I will provide an opinion re punishment if you feel left out.
But, none of those cases (serious as some may be) have zilch to do with Wednesday’s events, in which a sitting US President gave the perpetrators marching orders and cheered them on after they breached our Capitol in what amounts to one of the most shameful and disgraceful days in our nation’s history.
I have been thinking about the summer of 1988 when I lived 6 blocks from the US Capitol, spending that hot and humid summer clerking at the Department of Justice, drinking pints at The Dubliner, drinking yards at Tiber Creek, and falling in love with my bride to be.
Watched the 4th of July fireworks sitting on the Capitol’s marble veranda, wearing my black Converse high tops, drinking a six pack of Budweiser, and loving my America. A much different America.
Most of Wednesday’s perpetrators are mainly delusional manipulated people. They will pay a big price for their delusion. Wrong building. Wrong day.
Others are far more culpable. Trump, Hawley, Cruz, and all the right wing irresponsible flamethrowers are accountable.. They gave this mob de facto permission and ample runway to storm the building and subvert the certification of our election.
Truly unprecedented.
Disappointing that so many posters fail to grasp the gravity of Wednesday’s frontal assault on the very building that is the symbol of our nation’s democracy.
