…..it is a consistently recurring human failing and it happens at different levels - individual, corporate, national. Some people simply cannot manage their success, and they turn to perversion. Perhaps it is “the boring” that they detest? Perhaps they have come to think so much of themselves that they think that they can make their own rules, even of morality? Perhaps they are simply frustrated that the success achieved didn’t fill the void in their heart?
But once success and happiness achieved, they want more, and they are ungrateful for what was given them.
You rarely, if ever, see liberal ideology being manifested in times or places where life is hard….there isn’t room for it.
Interestingly also, it usually isn’t the people who struggled to achieve who manifest the flaw, it is their offspring or subsequent generations who never learned the lessons of humility and moral character that achieved the success.
It appears that those afflicted with this flaw need a struggle to prevent depravity. I think this is why history has been cyclic in this regard - struggle - success- peace and prosperity - decadence - the fall - dark times - struggle - etc.
Liberalism is a defect in the thinking in times of excess, and it has brought down many an empire under various names.
