NIL is a libertarian thing. Why shouldn't the athlete be able to market his services to the highest bidder. That is a free market. On that level, I support it, because I am libertarian.
But, I am also traditional. I liked college football better than professional sports, because of the fiction that these were fellow students of my university. Now?...I definitely think college football, as we knew it, is dead. These are just paid athletes, who will enter the portal every year to see if they can get a raise. And why wouldn't they?
I'm not sure why universities should host minor league teams. I guess it raises money. But, honestly, when I go back to ND, I will be more interested in the camaraderie of the tailgater than the live game performance of a bunch of athletes the university is paying to perform. I will cheer for them like I cheer for my local professional team...which is to say, I will cheer for them, but I won't be as excited when they win, and I won't be as crushed when they lose. I just don't get into professional sports that much. (I know others do, and more power to them.) And, I won't want to pay a high ticket price for that. I know my friends will want to, and they will force an expensive ticket on my every now and then, and I will pay them for it...but I will be paying mostly to go with them, and less to watch the game live.
