Public knowledge is an issue here. No possible benefit for public knowledge, but some possible negative impact, by making it easier for Putin to justify escalation.
Everyone may "know" (those are real quotes, to imply not really know, but suspect) that a defendant is guilty, but the defendant should still make the prosecutor present his case.
