I don't know about you guys, but I think that this is my biggest pet peave. When I run into a "liker", I try to give them a pass because I know that they are talking to other "likers', and that they are probably unaware of how uneducated they sound and how unimaginative their vocabulary is being revealed to be. But then the "likes" just keep coming, and I can't help but start counting. It is not that unusual to hit a count of 100 if the conversation is prolonged (the last time I got my hair cut, I was thinking about jerking my head and losing an ear so that she'd have to stop to call for help with the bleeding).
I actually had a talk with each of my kids to explain to them how this behavior makes them look - both to professors, and especially on job interviews. We actually have an ongoing game that we get points if we catch someone using the word "like" in the wrong setting. We did this because it is very lazy, habit forming, and easy to do if you are surrounded by it.
So, like, what do you guys think? I was like "this is so messed up", like, you know?
