current state of affairs regarding COVID from 2 days ago...of special note, it includes a roughly 20 minute back and forth with Dr. Ashish Jha, the White House Coronavirus Response Coordinator, to get his observations on where we are and what the future is likely to hold...he also shares some insights on what his experience has been working in the "Sausage Factory" where not only medical decisions are made and debated, but how much and how little influence the Executive Branch, FDA, and CDC have on each other...when everyone respects the rules (my take).
I'm biased on this, but the entire video is well worth watching, however, for those who just want Dr. Jha's comments, his segment begins around the 20 minute mark...btw, you'll learn that the easy exchange between him and the host comes from Dr. Jha formerly being a 'Chief Resident' at UCSF, and good friend of the host, Dr. Wachter.
Some of the key takeaways for me are..
>Given the nature of Coronaviruses, they travel between humans and animals...and there are over 20 different animals now shown to have COVID...this means that there is a huge 'reservoir' of animals that can be breeding grounds for new versions of Coronavirus.
>Therefore, we can't let our guard down when it comes to research, testing and development of vaccines and therapeutics, since the virus will never be eradicated.
>Panelists discussed who should get boosted going forward, and under what circumstances (dependent on the variant's severity)
>Good news...while our current situation is producing more cases, the severity of illness is low.
>Cautionary news..."Long COVID" is a real thing for which there is little data available...under the heading of "Disease" it needs more attention.
