That's how political partisans think. Truth and falsehood in the abstract are neither good nor bad to the partisan. They are merely political levers. What matters is who has their hand on the lever, and how well they operate the political machine.
And, the time period between accusation and denial...and then the time period between denial and exoneration...money in the bank to a partisan political prosecutor.
Credibility does not build political power; manipulation does.
