because that's what it is now on keeping abortions legal in at least some cases...btw, they aren't just Democrats in "Blue" states...that overwhelming majority includes Republicans and Independents as well...millions of them...and those views haven't wavered since Roe was decided. IMO our nation's institutions should all (including the SCOTUS) have the best interests of its citizens in mind in all their decisions...this time our SCOTUS failed.
This country is built on 'Majority Rule' and on this issue there is no doubt where the majority stands...yet 28 states either have or plan to enact, anti-abortion laws and so leaving this up to the states will not reflect the wishes of the "Overwhelming Majority"...looks like the "Process" fight is going to be in the next election or the one after that so that abortion rights are restored and 'Codified'...with a such a majority it's going to happen...just wish we could be spending out time on better ways to reduce abortions...without terrorizing every generation of American women from Puberty to Menopause.
If you deny the statistics I've shown you (and I've got more), you're simply being obstinate...they represent the true 'pulse' of America...and why?...because all of those people understand that at the very least, completely innocent women (e.g. raped 10 year old girls) should not have to bear the lifetime burden of carrying a completely "Unwanted" pregnancy to term...beyond that, there are myriad ways in which women become faced with un-wanted pregnancies, and it is nigh onto impossible to adjudicate the reasons for them, especially given the short time allowed before birth.
Note...the most recent edition of the National Catholic Reporter has an editorial on the issue...in it, it has these comments...
"Yet is is a decision with a very high cost...one perhaps too high for the country, and our church, to bear. As we at NCR have long argued, making abortion illegal is not the only...or even necessarily the most effective...way to bring about a REDUCTION in the number of abortions in this country."
This is where I come from...I want real reductions in the number of abortions...while at the same time, lessening the very real and sometimes horrendous burdens they bear because of truly Unwanted Pregnancies that they...through no fault of their own...are being asked toion endure.
Let's start making those reductions happen by getting our Catholic Church to face up to the reality of Contraception, which it should have done when another overwhelming majority of prelates on the Vatican II committee voted in favor of it...only to be denied by a single, well placed Cardinal (Ottaviani).
Noting wrong with wanting to reduce the number of abortions ('zero' is unfeasible)...just don't let that objective blind you to the other innocents...who deserve to live their lives fully and freely...certainly a concept you should be able to appreciate.
Are my words not honest enough for you?...hopefully, you don't expect total acceptance of your POV.
