Most people have no idea how big those things can get nor how long they can live. One time my best friend's dad and uncle kept a big snapper that tied into their lure. It took several swings of the axe on its neck to separate it from the body. They made turtle soup.
Bull snakes and pine snakes (fox snakes) top my list in the Upper Midwest. There are timber rattlers up here, but you never see them. Pine snakes can get up to six feet. Not common, but they are out there.
