Imagine a company has spokesman for its product, who got half the country to buy its product.
But, the other half of the country thinks that spokesman is totally discredited, and throws up in their mouths when they see him on TV. They would never buy anything he endorses.
Now, assuming the company CEO actually wants to sell his product to the rest of the country, what should he do?
Of course, he needs to get another spokesman.
And if the old spokesman keeps yapping about the product, the company makes it clear that the old spokesman is no longer authorized to speak for the product or the company.
If the CEO sticks with the same spokesman, then the only options are: (1) the CEO is a moron or has dementia, or (2) the CEO doesn't actually care about selling the product to the other half of the country...he's got other things on his mind.
