Why spend 1st round money (+ draft picks) for a player who may play 5 games per season because of inevitable injuries, when a future Hall of Famer tackle (Slater) was there for the taking?
My buddies today: "Smith is a great pick!! Giants would have snagged him. He won the Heisman. He runs great routes. Unstoppable!"
Me: "Is the NFL now touch, ... no tackling? Lemme guess .... he won't lose any speed after his surgery?"
There are skilled fast guys in the 2nd and 3rd and 4th rounds.
1st rounders are long term investments. Risk v reward decision-making.
