Agree, but too late for that now. If she backs down, she does more damage.
The order of options, best to worst:
1) She says nothing about going and does not go.
2) She says she is going to go, and she goes.
3) She says she is going to go, and then she backs down to Chinese threats and does not go.
Right now, the best outcome is option 2. She already passed up on option 1.
