Missing fairways or being above the hole made it tough to score. It is a demanding course. Sunday’s pin placements made it that much more difficult.
What you learn from watching these guys is what we know. Driving a ball 300+ yards is meaningless. Plenty of high school and college kids can do the same, albeit not with the same consistency.
The iron play and the short game (especially the short game) separates these players from the rest of mankind. Their ability to save par and score is brilliant.
I never practice. But, for those who have the time and inclination, hitting balls at the range should take a back seat to practicing chipping and putting. That is where one can best improve their game.
