Brey is clearly trying to win while decrying the same conduct in which he is engaged. And the many Brey supporters who excuse his inability to compete for championships because he doesn’t sign one-and-dones now see the truth: he doesn’t try to sign them out of principle; he tries, and mostly fails.
He may succeed this time. But the excuse—and principle—are lost.
