Last year's team would quit when they fell behind. This one does now. Shrews has found players who will compete. Davis getting that late, face-up shot off the glass was impressive. I liked that little scuffle he had with the Wake player. One thing I like in Shrews' offense is the ability to have more isolation sets where Davis can drive from the wing. There was absolutely no one the last couple years who would stick his nose into something like that, and Prentiss Hubb was the last guy who had any kind of swagger on the court. His first step allows him to get the jump on anyone defending him. If ND absolutely needs a rebound, Davis is the guy. Imes is struggling. Njie continues to struggle. Honestly, he would be a ninth man on a better ND team. Seems like a great kid, but he's overmatched. Frankly, I thought Zona should've claimed more of his minutes tonight. Zona had six boards in fewer minutes and had two or three nice defensive stands. Maybe Njie will develop, but if they still have those big man camps in the summer, he needs to attend one.
Who knew Eric Devendorf would be the most complimentary of color commentators this season in evaluating ND players? It was almost over the top.
One last thing that impresses me: ND players spend little or no time arguing to the refs. It's a complete waste of time for players to try doing that. I see so many games where various coaches allow their players to waste time and energy on that.
