Top 100 rankings weren't a thing until the 1980s, so keep that in mind, and also keep in mind that LaPhonso Ellis was rated a top five/top eight recruit in 1988. He's the most talented player ever at ND. Only poor grades early on prevented him from becoming a first-team All-American. Obviously, Austin Carr and Adrian Dantley produced more, but talent-wise, Ellis is the most gifted player ND ever had and his top five ranking was completely justified. He was also the beginning of the end for Lou Henson. Henson offered him cash to come to Illinois and Digger turned him in. As others said, you know Digger ran a clean program because if there had been anything that people could use against him, they would have. It's one of the reasons he and Knight got along with each other.
