The goal of coaching is to put your players in the position to be successful. It is abundantly clear that VG's defense schemes were far too complex to be consistently successful. When the scheme limits your ability to put the best players on the field ( i.e Schmidt vs Morgan last year) , you know something is wrong.
While it is good to see that there will be players that will support VG, the fact is most of them know no other defense scheme so they don't understand that the scheme is the principal problem, not the players. So while some will all internalize what they could have done to make things better, it was the coaches that put them in that position.
Nobody wants bad things to happen to VG but he was supposed to build a successful defense and it was clear that he wasn't doing that.
