I wish him well and thank him for being a part of the program. Seems to be a great young man. However, he is not the type of Player at DE that Notre Dame needs to compete with the bamas-osu’s of the world. Yes he did get better at stopping the run (holding the edge) but he was severely flawed in not being able to offer one ounce of pass rush ability. He should have been beefed up another 10 lbs and stayed at DT, but our talent at the time wouldn’t allow it. Now, with more talented players in the program and especially at DE he was bypassed at that spot. Both Khalid and Ade are more talented and offer abilities that he does not have. They will help take our dline to a higher level. Heck, Khalid already proved he was a much more disruptive football player last year and needs to be the starter. Ade is right on his heels and they both are the types of athletes that we have to put on the field to play against a bama.
As for transfers at championship level programs, Notre Dame doesn’t even hold a candle to the revolving door at some of these places. And yes many of them were gonna be counted on in their respective programs. Clemson had a few that stunned the coach ( other than dline because they are stacked at that position and one of the main reasons they are a great program right now)....bama had a boat load and OSU too. Remember Bo Scarbrough? Heck of a rb that transferred from bama and will be apx a mid round or so draft pick. How about that defensive tackle that ND was after from Clemson last year?
Anyway, this sort of thing needs/has to happen for ND to be at its best. The best players need to start regardless of time in program and if a senior player can’t deal with a reduction in playing time to a better football player, well, it’s time for you to move on. Notre Dame absolutely must continue to recruit the very best players each year that fit and coach em up to take someone’s job. That’s a championship mentality. There is not a coach in the game that would let nfl level talent sit on the bench to watch a journeyman play the majority of the game. The new DE’s are ready.
