I've been wondering why DW couldn't play vs Michigan and then have to sit in the next four games. Here's why:
1. Four games are four games in terms of the penalty on the player. For DW, being out four games, any four games, will hurt his stats and hurt his prospects for the NFL draft.
2. Holding him out against Michigan seems to hurt ND more than it hurts the player. Why should ND have to pay such a big price if it has no culpability for DW's situation? Given that he suffers the same penalty no matter which four games he has to sit out, I think it's more equitable for him to be allowed on the field in this all-so-important home opener.
Of course, the rule/policy may require the first four consecutive games after the player is found liable. If not, however, I think he should be allowed to play vs Michigan
I realize my thoughts are certainly debatable and I would appreciate hearing any opposing views.
