career carries.
2015 - 21 carries / 81 yds / 1 TD = 3.86 ypc
2016 - 38 / 200 / 3 = 5.26 ypc --- 0 carries in Texas (OT), Mich St., and Va Tech losses; Duke loss - only 5 carries; Stan loss - only 2 carries. All losses less than 8pts and most by 3pts
2017 - 39 / 360 / 4 = 9.23 ypc --- 0 carries in UGA 1 pt loss after rushing for 124 yds week before. Did not get hurt until 2 weeks later. 0 carries USC loss and 3 carries in Stanford loss
2018 - 21 / 121 / 1 = 5.76 ypc
Total - 120 / 802 / 9 = 6.68 ypc
Clearly, the ONLY reason you would leave this type of production of the field is for a personal dislike. No matter how bad the kid blocks that's not his job. His job is to run the football and he does it very, very well; both statistically and in live game action. He's not a "potential" guy. He's proved it. Also, his carries aren't low because of injury. He was barely injured last year. He definitely wasn't injured any more than Josh Adams from 2015 to 2017, so this has nothing to do with his not seeing the field.
Kelly would have to convenice me otherwise that he doesn't have something against Dexter. And, to support it, Kelly did the EXACT same thing to Cierre Wood who was the last real back we had. Not knocking Adams, he was good but he didn't have the same talent as Wood in college.
By the same token, Adams got the following carries
2015 - 117 / 835 / 6 === This is = Williams career total! And almost identical except Adams got to do it in one season
2016 - 158 / 933 / 5
2017 - 206 / 1420 / 9
I don't write this as an Adams vs. Williams. I write this as what an idiot Brian Kelly is. He wastes a TON of talent on the bench. From 2015 to 2017 ND could have had a monster of a backfield. Instead we relied on the ebs and flows of one single guy. If BK had a brain we would have beat UGA and other top teams / close games with the simplest, half brained substitution effort at the RB position alone, no less the debacle of decisions at QB. Kelly can recruit but his depth chart decisions are VERY costly.
