Yes, there are some aspects of the overall board where opinions contrary to the board doctrine aren't really in play.
But no, that doesn't make up for the general smugness that permeates the board especially the self serving tripe that comes from board ops particularly as they frequently defend protecting their minions who repeatedly violate their published rules with, for example, minor one week banishment while they blacklist trivial first offenders completely or relegate to the minor boards forever. The "reason" I was booted off their main board wasn't even among their board rules but because I basically challenging on their protected class who claimed something to be true when he couldn't have possibly know it to be true. It was his opinion(which was totally in line with board orthodoxy of course), I politely called him on that, next day I was gone. In the meantime, several posters (the most noted one included) routinely, on almost weekly basis over numerous years, violate their board rules 10,11,12 with impunity because they agree with the board orthodoxy. Occasionally they get "grounded" but, like favored kids, are always welcomed back into the fold because, after all, they agree with them.
Hey, they can run their board anyway they like. But anyone who spends any time surfing the internet boards knows what they have become, which is basically akin to the MSNBC of the ND world. Their hypocritical problem is the board has posted "rules" which are applied any way they chose hence making them only useful as an excuse to "censor" their board. They continue to claim the high ground even though they lost it a long time ago.
