Notre Dame wasn't a heavy RPO team under Wimbush, more zone read. Pulling the ball then deciding whether to run or throw it out wasn't really his game, especially since he's not accurate. Last year they were 30-41 for 121 yards (2.9 yards per attempt), and no TD's on throws at or behind the LOS. But, that was ok because there were easy yards in the run game. Hence the zone read.
This year the easy yards in the run game haven't really been there, so they just shifted strategies. Book so far is 27/28, 203 yards (7.2 YPA), and a touchdown on throws at or behind the LOS. Just like a MAC school would do.
