A commitment isn't binding. Coaches who receive a commitment from a kid know they have to continue recruiting them post-commitment through signing day, they're not like, "Thanks for the commitment, call you on signing day next year!" Knowing this, why would other schools interested in the kid stop calling? Unless the recruit says, "I'm done. Don't call me or I'll change my number," they're fair game. If they're listening, taking visits, etc., they can be had.
Anyway, Peterson should probably worry less about signing one more defensive recruit and figure out how to get his offense to stop laying an egg like three games each season.
