The argument presented is that ND being in the CFB Final Four is something of an anomaly because they've had good but not great recruiting classes. Yet, not only is ND in the top-10 in the 5-year composite ranking of recruiting classes, but 3 of the 4 teams in the CFB playoff are ranked consecutively in those same composite rankings (T7: Clemson, 8: ND, 9: Oklahoma). So according to the author's logic, all three of those teams being in the CFB playoff should be considered an anomaly.
While I like the insights the author provided into the recruiting visits for underclassmen on the day of the Cotton Bowl press day and prep on campus, the premise of the entire article is flawed. ND's presence in the top-10 composite rankings along with the other three CFB playoff finalists demonstrates that all of these programs are exactly where they should be. The only anomalies in the list are FSU and USC, who both significantly underperformed their 5-year composite rankings. The other schools in that top-10 performed at or near expectations.
