As it was stated below, the offense has overall been a boom or bust situation. I can't say I'm too surprised by the lack of points scored because let's face it, this is not anywhere near his most talented unit on that side of the ball. I'll save the lengthy post for another time but time and time again, here are the issues.
His offense seems to place too much importance on a Quarterback playing at an almost flawless level.
He fails to adequately adjust quickly enough (or adjust at all).
When something doesn't go correct right away, he panics and starts to throw too much.
Lastly and most importantly, Notre Dame has one position group where they can legitimately go head to head with anyone in the country and that is the offensive line. Kelly schematically has never had a legitimate rhythm to his playcalling.
Lastly, one of my biggest problems with him has been (and always will be because let's face it, Swarbrick will not hold him accountable) has been his laziness on the recruiting trail. He uses the reasoning for "program fits" like he did the other day because he and his offensive staff are too lazy to land legitimate playmakers. Brian doesn't care, he thinks with his million years of head coaching experience that he will figure it out. Classes of 8-15 are a model of keeping the status quo and not anything else. He's never going to figure it out, ever.
He should tell Long and Alexander to take a hike-then offer Josh Gattis two million a year and full control of everything. After that buddy Quinn should be launched too. I just rewatched the film...the OL is fucking garbage right now.
