Think about that, since ‘88 the results don’t lie. The two chances to win another championship ‘12 and ‘18 proved how far ND is away from even sniffing another one. The real issue is that it’s not a player or two it’s that the team wasn’t even close to being competitive in either game. And judging by how recruiting continues to evolve, ND has no shot. I grew up watching Daryle Lamonica, Joe Montana, Joe Thiesman. That was well over 30 years ago. Ricky Watters, Jerome Bettis in the backfield, not anymore. ND doesn’t get those kind of players anymore. Some great lineman and TE’s are great, however the skilled high end players don’t go to ND anymore. And that is not changing in our lifetime. The fact that the top teams start freshman QB’s and win championships says everything. ND is not in that fight for the top QB’s anymore. At one time the QB at ND was the top player in the country. Now no one even knows who he is. Finally, I’m not sure with safety issues whether football is well beyond it’s peak with many current NFL players not wanting their sons to ever play the game.
